Spectral method for solving nonlinear wave equations (Q1071950)

We consider the following nonlinear wave equations: \[ \partial^ 2\phi /\partial t^ 2-\partial^ 2\phi /\partial x^ 2+\mu^ 2\phi +\nu^ 2\chi^ 2\phi +f(| \phi |^ 2)\phi =0, \] \[ \partial^ 2\chi /\partial t^ 2-\partial^ 2\chi /\partial x^ 2+\alpha^ 2\chi +\nu^ 2\chi | \phi |^ 2+g(\chi)=0 \] with periodic-initial conditions. We develop a method for solving these problems which consists of the spectral method with respect to space variable and the difference method with respect to time variable. We present an error estimate and prove convergence and stability for this method.
