For a lattice ordered group G, let v(G) denote the intersection of all varieties of l.o. groups that contain G. v(G) is itself a variety of l.o. groups. For two varieties \({\mathfrak U}\), \({\mathfrak V}\) of l.o. groups, \({\mathfrak UV}\) is defined by: \(G\in {\mathfrak UV}\) iff there is an ideal N of G such that \(N\in {\mathfrak U}\) and G/N\(\in {\mathfrak V}\). This is also a variety of l.o. groups. Now v(G)\({\mathfrak V}=v(G wr Z)\) where \({\mathfrak V}\) is the variety generated by Z; the main theorem of this paper states that if G is a finitely presented l.o. group, then there is a finitely presented l.o. group H such that \(v(H)=v(G wr Z):\) i.e., H and G wr Z generate the same variety of l.o. groups. It is also noted that this H and G have word and conjugacy problems of the same degrees.
