Let G denote a locally compact group and P(G) \([P_ c(G)]\) the topological semigroup of absolutely continuous [absolutely continuous and compactly supported] probability measures on G. We say that G is P- amenable \([P_ c\)-amenable] if the topological semigroup P(G) \([P_ c(G)]\) is amenable. Some combinatorial properties of this class of groups are studied. The relationship between amenability and P-amenability of G is investigated. It is shown that a connected solvable \(P_ c\)-amenable group G has polynomial growth if, and only if, \(P_ c(S)=\{f\in P_ c(G) |\) supp \(f\subset S\}\) is amenable for any open subsemigroup S of G.
