In recent papers we have studied the numerical solution of Cauchy singular integral equations of the first kind by a polynomial collocation method. This technique has proved to be quite efficient for many problems, even when the kernel (but not the right-hand side) is discontinuous. The \(L_ 2\) convergence and stability was established by the author and \textit{J. Fromme} [ibid. 71, 271-286 (1979; Zbl 0428.65068) and Appl. Math. Comput. 8, 281-292 (1981; Zbl 0464.65096)]. In this paper we show that the convergence analysis given earlier can be generalized to establish the \(L_ 2\) convergence of collocation under rather mild restrictions on the data.
