The authors defined the Tits process for constructing Jordan algebras of degree 3 in their previous paper (see the preceding review). In the present paper, the authors prove that every simple Jordan algebra \(J\) of degree 3 over a field \(F\) can be built up from \(F1\) by successive applications of the Tits process, except for certain cases in characteristic 3. In fact, the Tits process gives an algebra isomorphic to a subalgebra of \(J\) when one starts with any separable subalgebra of \(J\) that isn't obviously inappropriate. The authors determine the semisimple Jordan algebras that can be constructed using the Tits process. As a consequence of their work, they obtain an example of an exceptional Jordan division algebra that can be obtained from both the first and the second Tits constructions.
