[Part I, cf. the second author, ibid. 15, 511-522 (1983; Zbl 0514.53028).] Conformastat spacetimes are stationary spacetimes whose three-dimensional manifold of timelike Killing trajectories is conformally flat. The author shows in the present paper that all conformastat vacuum spacetimes are axially symmetric as well. For the proof he chooses suitable complex coordinates in the three-dimensional manifold, two of which are the Ernst potential (the squared norm plus i times the twist potential of the timelike Killing field) and its complex conjugate. The integrability conditions resulting from the overdetermined system of Einstein equations are very long and they are treated by the symbolic manipulation language REDUCE.
