Two-dimensional time-dependent numerical computations of natural convection have been made using explicit finite-difference equations in terms of temperature, vorticity and stream function. Three cases have been computed: (1) two-dimensional thermosyphon in a region bounded by two concentric squares, the boundary surfaces to the left and right of the vertical mid plane being at different temperatures; (2) two internal blocks heated to a constant temperature with the walls of the containing cavity cooled to a constant temperature; (3) as for (2) but with four internal blocks. The innovation is the calculation of the stream function at the internal boundary surfaces. The consistency of the computation has been checked and the accuracy has been shown to improve for finer-meshed grids.
