[Cf. also the author, Prog. Math. 26, 287-296 (1982; Zbl 0504.12009)]. Let K be a CM-field with maximal totally real subfield k, \(G(K/k)=\{1,J\}\). The author discusses the main conjecture of Iwasawa, relating certain Galois actions to p-adic L-functions [for details and notations see \textit{L. Washington}, Introduction to cyclotomic fields (1982; Zbl 0484.12001), Chap. 13]. Using the analytic class number formula, he gives a simple proof that F(T) and \(2^{[k:{\mathbb{Q}}]}f(T)\) have the same Iwasawa invariants, i.e. \(\lambda_ F=\lambda_ f\), \(\mu_ F=\mu_ f\) if p is odd, and \(\mu_ F=[k:{\mathbb{Q}}]f(T)\) if \(p=2\). The author points out that it follows from the main conjecture that F(T) is the product of \(2^{[k:{\mathbb{Q}}]}f(T)\) and an element of \({\mathbb{Z}}[[ T]]^*\).
