    The author proves the following theorem relating the successive minima of convex bodies in \({\mathbb{R}}^ m\) and \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) and those of a convex body in \({\mathbb{R}}^{mn}:\) There is a constant \(c>0\) depending only on m and n, with the following property: Let \(A=(a_{hi})\) be a real \(m\times m\)-matrix and \(B=(b_{kj})\) a real \(n\times n\)-matrix and define an mn\(\times mn\)-matrix C by \(C=(c_{hi,kj}=a_{hi} b_{kj})\). Without loss of generality, all three matrices have determinant 1. Let \(\mu_ h^{(m)}\), \(\mu_ k^{(n)}\), and \(\mu_{\ell}^{(m,n)}\), be the successive minima of the convex distance functions \(f^{(m)}(x)=\max | \sum_{i}a_{hi} x_ i|\), \(f^{(n)}(y)=\max | \sum_{j}b_{kj} y_ j|\), \(f^{(m,n)}(z)=\max | \sum_{i}\sum_{j}c_{hi,kj} z_{ij}|\), respectively. Denote by \(p_{\ell}^{(m,n)}\) the products \(\mu_ h^{(m)} \mu_ k^{(n)}\) numbered such that \(p_ 1^{(m,n)}\leq p_ 2^{(m,n)}\leq...\leq p_{mn}^{(m,n)}\). Then \(cp_{\ell}^{(m,n)}\leq \mu_{\ell}^{(m,n)}\leq p_{\ell}^{(m,n)}\).
