Consider the Cauchy problem: \(u_{tt}-\Delta u=F(u)\), \(t>0\), \(x\in R^ N\) (N\(\leq 3)\); \(u(x,0)=f(x)\), \(u_ t(x,0)=g(x)\), \(x\in R^ N\). If F(u) is superlinear then u generally blows up in finite time. In a previous paper (probably not yet published), the authors studied the existence of a blow-up surface \(\Gamma\) (\(\Gamma\) : \(t=\phi (x)\) such that \(u(x,t)<\infty \Leftrightarrow t<\phi (x))\) as well as its regularity. In this paper they are concerned with the same problem in one dimensional case \((N=1)\) which allows them to obtain better results.
