The authors treat the problem how to control vibration in very large and mechanically flexible structures. A control scheme with velocity-only feedback is presented as a computational method which assigns appropriate damping to selected modes without disturbing the remaining modes of the second-order matrix differential system. Related properties of second- order \(\lambda\)-matrices and efficient model decoupling techniques are shown. An illustrative example is given.
