The wave propagation in a continuously stratified fluid caused by pressure distribution which is harmonic in time applied to the free surface of the initially unperturbed flow is studied in the linear formulation using Fourier-Laplace transform and the stationary phase method for evaluating the integrals asymptotically. A qualitative description of the internal wave field is given.
