This paper is concerned with the semilinear initial-boundary value problem \[ (1)\quad \partial u/\partial t-(\partial /\partial x_ i(a_{ij} \partial u/\partial x_ j)+b_ i \partial u/\partial x_ i)=f(x,t,u)\quad in\quad Q_ T, \] \[ (2)\quad u(x,0)=\phi (x)\quad in\quad \Omega,\quad (3)\quad Bu=0\quad on\quad (0,T)\times \partial \Omega, \] where \(Q_ T=(0,T)\times \Omega\), \(\Omega \subset R^ n\) is a Lipschitz continuous bounded domain and Bu\(\equiv u\) or \(Bu\equiv \partial u/\partial \nu +\beta u\) with \(\partial /\partial \nu\) the outer conormal derivative. It is proved that the monotone iterative technique for solving (1)-(3) can also be applied under weaker smoothness conditions on the coefficients and the right side, if one works in the Sobolev space \(W_ 2^{1,1}(Q_ T)\). A straightforward extension to a wider function space can be found in another paper of the author [Z. Angew. Math. Mech. 66, 429-434 (1986)].
