The energy release rate in quasi-static crack propagation and J-integral (Q1077996)

This work is motivated by, and mainly based on \textit{M. E. Gurtin}'s paper [(*) J. Elasticity 9, 187-195 (1979; Zbl 0398.73089)]. For the sake of clarity and comparison of the results we are considering here the problem of quasi-static (edge) crack propagation in two-dimensional bodies as Gurtin did (*). We are also using the same notation as in (*). The approach is a general one and points out the importance of Euler-Lagrange equations in Gurtin's approach. The application of general results on the special class of materials is given for a micropolar elastic material, elastic dielectric and hyperelastic body.
