The author continues his investigation on the nonlinear thermoelasticity theory for crystals [see e.g. ibid. 88, 337-345 (1985; Zbl 0588.73188)]. In the present paper the author considers the problem of characterizing the most stable equilibrium configurations of unloaded crystals. The associated minimum problem is studied. The author presents methods for constructing special solutions.
