    The author proves a representation theorem for minimal continuous flows \((T_ t)_{t\in {\mathbb{R}}}\) on a compact Hausdorff space X, which may be regarded as a refinement of \textit{W. Ambrose}'s theorem [Ann. Math., II. Ser. 42, 723-739 (1941; Zbl 0025.26901)]. There exist a compact subset \(Y\subset X\) and a function \(F: Y\to {\mathbb{R}}\) with \(T_{F(y)}(y)\in Y\quad (y\in Y)\) such that \((X,(T_ t)_{t\in {\mathbb{R}}})\) is Borel- isomorphic to \((\Omega,(S_ t)_{t\in {\mathbb{R}}})\) via \(S_ t=\beta^{- 1}T_ t\beta\), where \(\Omega =\{(y,u):\quad y\in Y,\quad 0\leq u<F(u)\}\) and \(\beta (y,u)=T_ u(y).\) If \(\mu\) is a quasi-invariant measure on X then there exists a quasi-invariant measure \({\tilde \mu}\) on Y such that \(\mu\) \(\circ \beta\) and \({\tilde \mu}\times du| \Omega\) are equivalent (in particular, if \(\mu\) is invariant then one may achieve equality). As an application of this representation the maximality of algebras of analytic functions associated with a minimal flow is investigated.
