If \(P_ n(z,a,b)=_ 2F_ 1(-n,a+b+1,2a+1;1-z)\) and \(Q_ n(z,a,b)=P_ n(z,a,-b)\), then the \(P_ n\) and \(Q_ n\), on the unit circle, are biorthogonal polynomials related to the Heisenberg polynomials. The author derives the following complete expansion as \(n\to +\infty:\) \[ P_ n(z,a,b)\sim [\Gamma (2a+1)/\Gamma (a+b+1)]z^{a-b-1}[\ln z/(z- 1)]^{2a}\times [\phi_ 0\sum^{\infty}_{m=0}\alpha_ mw^{-m}+\phi_ 1\sum^{\infty}_{m=0}\beta_ mw^{-m}]. \] Here \(\alpha_ m\) and \(\beta_ m\) are constants, while \(w=(n+1)\ln z\). Also, \(\phi_ 0\) is a confluent hypergeometric function of w, and \(\phi_ 1\) is the derivative of \(\phi_ 0\). The expansion is uniformly valid on any compact subset of \(C\setminus \{0\}\); indeed, the paper gives an error bound. A confluent hypergeometric function, by standard results, is a limit of Gauss hypergeometric functions. The author, by a slight generalization, describes the uniform approach to this limit.
