It is proved that an unbounded operator A on a KH-module over a commutative von Neumann algebra \({\mathcal Z}\) is decomposable if D(A) satisfies some density condition. It means that there exists a finite family of minimal projections \(Q_ i\in {\mathcal Z}\) such that \(A=\sum^{n}_{i=1}AQ_ i+A_ 1\), where \(A_ 1\) is bounded and orthogonal to \(\sum^{n}_{i=1}Q_ i.\) Being applied to a modular operator associated to a center-valued weight on a von Neumann algebra M this implies that M is a product of a semi- finite algebra and a finite number of properly infinite factors.
