On certain random simplices in \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) (Q1081953)

Consider a unit n-ball and \(r+l\) points distributed at random such that some of them are on the surface and the rest of them in the interior. The exact density for the r-content of the simplicial convex hull is given for the general case when the points are distributed according to a beta type-2 density. Special cases in explicit forms as well as an asymptotic case are considered. It is shown that a certain function of the r-content is asymptotically normal. This result is analogous to a conjecture of \textit{R. E. Miles} [Adv. Appl. Probab. 3, 353-382 (1971; Zbl 0237.60006)] which was proved to be correct by the reviewer, Ann. Probab. 10, 247-251 (1982; Zbl 0479.60021).
