As is known, a quadratic system with a weak focus of order 3 at the origin is of the form \[ (E_ 2)\quad dx/dt=-y+ax^ 2+bxy,\quad dy/dt=x+((b-3n)/5)x^ 2+3axy-ny^ 2 \] where \[ a^ 3(n-2b)(3n- b)[5(n+3b)a^ 2+(n-b)(2n+b)^ 2]\neq 0. \] In 1976, \textit{L. Cerkas} [Differ. Uravn. 12, 2281-2282 (1976; Zbl 0344.34024)] proved that there can exist no limit cycle around the weak focus at the origin for \(0<| 1/n| <<1\). In 1981 S. L. Cai and M. S. Wang independently proved the non-existence of limit cycles around the origin for \(n=0\) [\textit{S. L. Cai}, Chin. Ann. Math. 2, 475-478 (1981; Zbl 0479.34012); \textit{M. S. Wang} and \textit{Y. J. Lin}, ibid. 3, 721-724 (1982; Zbl 0509.34025)]. Afterwards X. F. Du generalized this result to the cases \(n=\pm 1/2\), \(\pm 1\). In this paper the author proves non-existence of limit cycles around this weak focus of order 3 of \((E_ 2)\) for \(-\infty <n<+\infty\). Therefore it is impossible to construct a quadratic system having 4 limit cycles around a singular point by using Bautin's technique.
