The most interesting result is closely related to the theorem proved by the second author, \textit{R. N. Mukherjee} and \textit{T. Som} [Math. Jap. 31, 235-245 (1986; see the preceding review)] and reads as follows. Let A,S,T be selfmappings of a complete metric space (X,d) such that \[ d(Ax,Ay)\leq f(\max \{d(Tx,Sy),d(Tx,Ax),d(Ty,Ay),d(Tx,Ay),d(Sy,Ax)\}) \] for any x,y\(\in X\) where f: [0,\(\infty)\to [0,\infty)\) is a nondecreasing and right continuous function such that \(f(t)<t\) for \(t>0\) and t-f(t)\(\to \infty\) as \(t\to \infty\). Suppose that for any \(x\in X\) there exists a \(y\in X\) such that \(Ty=Sy=Ax\). If A ''weakly'' commutes with S and T and one of A, S and T have a unique common fixed point. Six examples illustrating the theorems proved are also given.
