    Let G denote a cell-like upper semicontinuous decomposition of the finite-dimensional manifold M. If M/G is finite-dimensional, \textit{R. J. Daverman} [Pac. J. Math. 93, 277-298 (1981; Zbl 0415.57007)] has shown that \(M\times {\mathbb{R}}^ 2\cong (M/G)\times {\mathbb{R}}^ 2\). In contrast, an example is given in this paper of compact polyhedra P and Q such that Q is a cellular image of P, but \(P\times {\mathbb{R}}^ n\not\cong Q\times {\mathbb{R}}^ n\) for all n. On the positive side, if G denotes a cell-like upper semicontinuous decomposition of the polyhedron K for which K/G is finite-dimensional, then it is shown \(K\times \sigma \cong (K/G)\times \sigma\), where \(\sigma =\{(x_ i)\in \prod^{\infty}_{i=1}[-1,1] |\) \(x_ i\neq 0\) for at most finitely many \(i\}\).
