The paper deals with the linearization of a smooth map f near its hyperbolic fixed point in the two dimensional case. The Sternberg linearization theorem states that, in the absence of ''resonance'' a transformation is smoothly conjugate to its linear part near a hyperbolic fixed point. The conjugacy can be chosen of class \(C^ S\), where S depends on the smoothness r of the transformation f and on the linear part L. The author determines the supremum \(S=S(L,r)\) as a Hölder exponent for \(r>1\) in the two dimensional case. The assumption that \(L=Df(0)\) is nonresonant at each order k, \(2\leq k\leq r\) assures that f can be conjugated to \(Lz+O(| z|^ r)\) by a polynomial change of variable, and so the author deals mainly with the linearization of maps given already in this form.
