Multiports are electrical, thermodynamical or hybrid systems with a finite number of independent external state variables. In the simplest case we have pure linear resistors, capacitors, inductors and so on. In the paper presented it is discussed how to substitute such multidimensional systems by coupled systems of one-dimensional elements. the coupling is done by means of two-port ideal transformers, two-port gyrators and so-called one-junctions or zero-junctions resp. These junctions can be regarded as generalizations of the connexions in parallel or in series resp. The structure of the equivalent system is characterized by specific graphical representations, called single-bond and multibond decomposition of the original system. The paper treats multiport transformers, resistors, capacitors and gyrators.
