A partially ordered abelian group G is called ultrasimplicial whenever for every finite subset S of the positive cone \(G^+\) there exists an independent subset B of \(G^+\) such that the semigroup generated by B contains S. It was shown [in Lect. Notes Math. 734, 1-49 (1979; Zbl 0418.06010)] by \textit{G. A. Elliott} that both totally ordered abelian groups and abelian \(\ell\)-groups with at most a finite number of independent ideals are ultrasimplicially ordered. In the present paper it is proved that every \(\ell\)-group with two positive generators is ultrasimplicial. In a ''note added in proof'' the author announces that every abelian \(\ell\)-group is ultrasimplicial.
