    In a bounded open region \(G\subset R^ n\) satisfying some additional conditions the authors investigate a generalized Cauchy problem \[ (1)\quad (\frac{d}{dt})u(t)+L^{\sim}u(t)=f,\quad u(0)=u_ 0 \] where \(L^{\sim}\) is the closure of the operator \(L=\Delta_ 1... \Delta_ K\) with \(\Delta_ j=\sum^{m_ j}_{s=1}{\mathcal D}^ z_{\ell_ j+s}\), \(1\leq j\leq K\) denoting the Laplace operator which acts on functions defined on subsets \(R^{m_ j}\) \((\subset R^ n).\) Studying the resolvent of \(L^{\sim}\) they prove that it satisfies conditions to guarantee that \(L^{\sim}\) is an infinitesimal generator of an analytic semigroup of bounded linear operators in \(L^ 2(G)\) and thus, that there exists a generalized solution \(u\in C^ 0(R^+_ 0,L^ 2(G))\cap C^ 1(R^+,L_ 2(G))\), of (1) for a Hölder function \(f: R^+_ 0\to L^ 2(G)\) and \(u_ 0\in {\mathcal D}(L^{\sim})\).
