It is shown that there are exactly 15 totally imaginary octic fields with discriminant \(\leq 1 656 110\); all of these had been found earlier by \textit{H. W. Lenstra} jun. [Invent. Math. 38, 237-254 (1977; Zbl 0328.12007)] who had proved them to be Euclidean. The method is to obtain possible generating polynomials P, using bounds on the coefficients and also on P(-1) and P(1), and then to exclude unsuitable ones by various methods, including consideration of the norms of small primes. Special results are proved for the cases when the octic field has a quartic or quadratic subfield: when there is a quartic subfield the bound 1 656 110 can be replaced by 1 954 287, and all such fields are listed. A list (not necessarily complete) is also given of fields with discriminant \(<3\cdot 10^ 6\); the Euclidean nature of these fields is not known.
