For \(\Omega =[0,1]\), \(P\) the Lebesgue measure on \([0,1]\), \(0\leq p<\infty\), \(L_ p(\Omega,\Sigma,P)\) (abbr. \(L_ p)\), L(p,\(\infty)\) the Lorentz space of all \(f\in L_ 0:\| f\|_{p,\infty}=\sup x(P(| f| >x))^{1/p}<\infty\) and \(X\) a Banach space, a linear operator \(V: X\to L_ p\) (or \(V: X\to L(p,\infty))\) is a strong embedding if V is an isomorphism onto its range and the topology of \(L_ p\) (or \(L(p,\infty))\) on its range coincides with the \(L_ 0\)-topology. On the other hand a Banach space \(X\) is of type p (Rademacher), \(1\leq p\leq 2\), if there is a constant C with the property: \(Avg\| \sum^{n}_{1}\epsilon_ ix_ i\|^ p\leq C\sum^{n}_{1}\| x_ i\|^ p\), where the average is taken over all choices of sign \(\epsilon\) \({}_ i=\pm 1.\) Now in this paper, for \(1\leq p<2\), it is proved that the following propositions are equivalent: i) \(X\) embeds into \(L_ p.\) ii) \(\ell_ p(X)\) embeds into \(L_ 0.\) iii) \(L_ p(X)\) embeds into \(L_ 0.\) iv) There is a tensor product \(\ell_ p\otimes_ aX\) which is of type p and embeds into \(L_ 0.\) The main method of proof for this results is based on the known observation on the existence of non-trivial continuous linear functionals on the non-locally convex quasi-Banach space \(L(1,\infty)\).
