Torsion of a micropolar elastic prism of square cross-section (Q1084925)

An analytical solution is presented for the problem of torsion of a prismatical bar of square cross-section of a micropolar (Cosserat) elastic solid. Warp of the cross-sections is found to differ from the warp in a classically elastic solid. Contrary to the classical case, a non-zero shear strain is predicted to occur at the edge of the bar. Novel experimental modalities are suggested on the basis of this analytical solution.
