Let X be a closed subset of [-1,1] which contains at least \(n+2\) points, and let \(B_ n(f)\) be the best uniform approximation to \(f\in C[X]\) from the set \(\pi_ n\) of all polynomials of degree at most n. The global Lipschitz constant of f is defined as \[ \lambda_ n(f)=\sup \{\| B_ n(f)-B_ n(g)\| /\| f-g\|:g\in C[X],g\neq f\}, \] and the strong unicity constant is defined as \[ M_ n(f)=\sup \{\| p-B_ n(f)\| /(\| f-p\| -\| p-B_ n(f)\|):p\in \pi_ n,\quad p\neq B_ n(f)\}. \] The local Lipschitz constant of f is \[ \lambda_ n(f,\delta)=\sup \{\| B_ n(f)-B_ n(g)\| /\| f-g\|:0<\| f-g\| \leq \delta,\quad g\in C[X]\}. \] The authors continue their investigation of the behavior of local and global Lipschitz constants, with an emphasis on how local and global constants relate to each other, and to strong unicity and Lebesgue constants. An extended global Lipschitz constant is defined for f, and it is shown that this constant is asymptotically equivalent to the strong unicity constant. Estimates of the size of the local Lipschitz constant for f and given when the cardinality of the set of extremal points of \(f-B_ n(f)\) is \(n+2\). Examples which illustrate that the local and extended global Lipschitz constants may have very different asymptotic behavior are constructed.
