It is known that the space \(C_ p(X)\) of all real-valued continuous functions on a space X endowed with the topology of pointwise convergence is Lindelöf in each of the following cases: (a) X is hereditarily separable (N. V. Velichko, P. Zenor); (b) X is a Corson compact space (A. V. Arkhangel'skij, S. P. Gul'ko). The author presents a unified proof of these results, which gives something more. In particular, it is proved that all spaces \(C_ p(X)\), \(C_ pC_ p(X),..\). are Lindelöf whenever X is a Corson compact space. \{Reviewer's remark: Recently O. Sipacheva has succeeded in showing that all spaces \(C_ p(X)\), \(C_ pC_ p(X),..\). are Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)- spaces (in the sense of K. Nagami) whenever X is an Eberlein compact space. O. Okunev proved that the same conclusion is true for any compact space X with Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space \(C_ p(X).\}\)
