In this paper is studied a die design problem for rigid-plastic metals for which the principal stress directions coincide with streamlines of the flow. Starting from the equations which describe the steady state deformation, the author established a differential equation of the velocities along two orthogonal curves (each making a 45-degree angle with the major stress direction). This equation with separable variables is applied to three particular die profiles and the boundary conditions are discussed.
