Let V be a finite dimensional vector space over the field with two elements, and let \(e: 0\to {\mathbb{Z}}/2\to V^{\sim}\to V\to 1\) be a central extension; the group \(V^{\sim}\) is usually called an extra special 2-group. For each \(k\geq 0\), write \[ H^ K(V^{\sim},{\mathbb{Z}})=A(k)\oplus \quad elementary\quad Abelian^ 2- group. \] The purpose of the paper under review is to prove that A(k) is zero if \(k\not\equiv 0 mod 4\), and that it is cyclic of order \(2^{a(k,Q)}\) otherwise, where a(k,Q) is a certain number described explicitly in terms of k and the quadratic form Q which defines the extension e.
