\textit{R. H. Bing} [Ann. Math., II. Ser. 65, 484-500 (1957; Zbl 0079.388)] described an example of a point-like (cellular) decomposition of \(E^ 3\) whose decomposition space is not topologically \(E^ 3\). Bing's example has become known as the dogbone space and has spawned a number of similar decompositions. Bing showed in essence that all dogbone decompositions are nonshrinkable. Several authors have considered various local properties of dogbone decompositions. This paper examines another local property called strong local simple connectivity (SLSC), meaning that each point has arbitrarily small simply connected open neighborhoods. By requiring that both handles of each solid double torus used in defining the decomposition be nontrivially knotted, the author obtains what he calls knotted dogbone spaces. The main result of the paper is that knotted dogbone spaces are not SLSC. The methods rely strongly on techniques introduced initially by Bing. Proofs are straightforward and easy to follow, but the paper is marred by several trivial typographical errors.
