The analysis of a complex structure by the finite element method leads to a large number of degrees of freedom. The corresponding matrix equation is usually reduced to a manageable size using the method of eigenvalue economization. This paper describes an improved version of an automatic technique for selecting optimum variables to be kept as masters using the eigenvalue economization method. The technique overcomes the limitaions of the previous program, as well as improving its overall efficiency.
