The random vortex method is a grid-free method for the numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations at high Reynolds numbers. This numerical method simulates the flow inside the boundary layer by vortex sheets and the flow outside this layer by vortex blobs. The algorithm produces a smooth transition between the sheets and the blobs. The main advantage of the random vortex method is to avoid the effect of numerical diffusion due to finite differentiation. This grid-free method is particularly attractive for the simulation of flows at high Reynolds numbers. In this paper we present the computation of the turbulent flow of air over a scale model in wind tunnel using the random vortex method.
