The paper discusses the role of the intermediate boundary condition in the AF2 scheme used by \textit{T. L. Holst} [e.g.: AIAA J. 17, 1038-1045 (1979; Zbl 0441.76003)] for simulation of the transonic full potential equation. We show that the treatment suggested by Holst led to a restriction on the time step and suggest ways to overcome this restriction. The discussion is based on the theory developed by \textit{B. Gustafsson, H. O. Kreiss} and \textit{A. Sundström} [Math. Comput. 26, 649-686 (1972; Zbl 0293.65076)] and also on the Von Neumann method.
