A note on the genericity of simultaneous stabilizability and pole assignability (Q1088633)

The genericity of simultaneous stabilizability, simultaneous strong stabilizability and simultaneous pole assignability in linear multivariable systems is studied. Some results concerning the above cases are derived using simple proofs. Also, some lemmas concerning generic greatest common divisors which may be of some independent interest are presented. The main results of the paper had been previously established by \textit{B. K. Ghosh} and \textit{C. I. Byrnes} [see IEEE Trans. Autom. Control AC-28, 735-741 (1983; Zbl 0543.93053)] using state-space methods. In contrast, the proofs in the paper are formulated in the input-output setting without recourse to state-space realizations and suggest simple procedures for the computation of a common controller that achieves the derived property. The paper is well organized and written and can be considered to be of very good quality in its topic area.
