    Let \(M\subset {\mathbb{C}}^ n\) be a smooth generic, CR submanifold of codimension d, and let \(T^ C(M)\) and \(H^ C(M)\) be the complexified tangent bundle and the complexified holomorphic tangent bundles. For \(p\in M\), let \(L^ 0_ p(M)=H^ C_ p(M)\), and let \(L^ m_ p(M)\) be the subbundle generated by brackets of length j, i.e., \([L_ 1,[L_ 2,...,[L_{m-1},L_ m],...]\) where \(L_ 1,...,L_ m\) are vector fields in \(H^ C_ p\). The present paper studies submanifolds M of codimension 2 in \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\). M is said to have type \(\ell =(\ell_ 1,\ell_ 2)\) at a point \(p=0\in M\) if \(L^ j_ 0(M)=H^ C_ 0(M)\) holds for \(0\leq j\leq \ell_ 1\) and \(L^ j_ 0(M)=T^ C_ 0(M)\) for \(\ell_ 2\leq j\). If \(0\leq M\) is a point of type \(\ell =(\ell_ 1,\ell_ 2)\), then 0 is said to be semi-rigid if \([L_ 1,L_ 2]=0\) for \(L_ 1\in L_ 0^{m_ 1}\), \(L_ 2\in L_ 0^{m_ 2}\), and \(m_ 1+m_ 2\leq \ell_ 1\), \(m_ 1,m_ 2\geq 2.\) The main result of this paper concerns a semi-rigid CR submanifold \(M\subset {\mathbb{C}}^ n\) of codimension 2. It is shown that if \(p\in M\) is a point of type \(\ell =(\ell_ 1,\ell_ 2)\), then every CR function f on M near p has a holomorphic extension to an open set \(\omega \subset {\mathbb{C}}^ n\) which in general does not contain p, but \(p\in {\bar \omega}\). The set \(\omega\) is obtained by a construction of complex disks, and so on estimate is given on the size of \(\omega\) in terms of its profile in the normal bundle to M at p.
