A diagram oriented proof of Dehn's lemma (Q1090977)

The authors give a proof of Dehn's Lemma which relies completely on the Dehn diagram of the singular set and translates the arguments provided by the 2-fold covering into this setting. This yields a beautiful analysis of the geometry of the proof. In addition a topological property of the singular set emerges. It is pointed out that the loop theorem can be treated similarly. Whether the method applies to the sphere theorem remains a question.
