An intriguing problem is for a given group G to construct an algebra A such that G is isomorphic to Aut(A). The author presents several methods of doing this for various classes of groups and then gives a general construction which works for all finite groups. The algebras, called almost alternating, are finite dimensional and have a basis \(x_ 1,...,x_ n\) such that \(x_ ix_ i=cx_ i\) (c\(\neq 0)\) for all i and \(x_ ix_ j=-x_ jx_ i\) for \(i\neq j\). For any such algebra, the automorphism group, G, is isomorphic to a subgroup of \(S_ n\) and conditions are given which are equivalent to G being isomorphic to \(S_ n\).
