Laurent series and their Padé approximations (Q1092193)

This book is about rational functions found by matching coefficients of a formal Laurent series with the expansion of the rational. The book gives a very thorough treatment of the algebra, recursion relations, continued fraction algorithms, other algorithms, relations to biorthogonal and orthogonal polynomials, of these various approximants. For functions meromorphic in the whole plane save for essential singularities at zero and infinity, the author proves an analogue of the Montessus de Ballore theorem for Padé approximants and some more convergence theorems using asymptotics of Töplitz determinants. The final chapter is a rapid overview of connections with the problems associated with the names of Carathéodory and Schur, inverse scattering problems and filtering.
