On a theory of scale types (Q1092541)

A scale is regular if there is a permissible transformation by which any scale can be transformed into any other, for a given measurement system. The system is called regular if all the corresponding scales are regular. The main theorem leads to a characterization of scale types. If the lowest possible scale type corresponds to the group of bijective functions, it follows that for ordered sets only four scale types are possible: ordinal, interval, ratio, and absolute.
