Two special one-step methods for the numerical solution of initial value problems in ordinary differential equations are discussed. These methods are based on approximating the local solutions by certain rational functions just as proposed by \textit{J. D. Lambert} and \textit{B. Shaw} [Math. Comput. 19, 456-462 (1965; Zbl 0131.144)]. In the present paper the degrees of denominators and numerators in the approximations are specialized to (1,1) and (2,1), respectively. The local discretization error of the (1,1)-method is already analyzed in Lambert and Shaw's paper mentioned: it turns out that the orders of the methods considered are 2 and 3, in general, not 1 and 2 as claimed by the author. - In some numerical examples the methods are compared with other schemes based on rational approximation with numerators of degree zero.
