The author considers the existence and stability of periodic solutions of the nonlinear renewal equation \[ B(t)=\int^{\infty}_{0}ds \Omega (s,\{B,t-s\})B(t-s), \] where \(\{B,r\}=\{B(u)| u<r\}\). A Hopf- bifurcation result is presented and a formula for the Floquet multiplier is given. These results are then applied to a model of cohort-controlled fertility in humans.
