A solution to the 2-dimensional estimation problem based on a low order quarter-plane causal recursive model, namely the Roesser-CRSD stochastic model with process and/or observation noise which is no longer white is presented. 2-dimensional recursive minimum variance error (MVE) estimation is performed, and four theorems are proved. The application of this estimation technique to image restoration problems is described, the restoration of images degraded by noise and/or blur can be handled recursively. To illustrate this technique, practical examples of image restoration are presented.
