The author studies the hypersurfaces \(X^ 4\) of degree 4 in \({\mathbb{P}}^ 3\) over \({\mathbb{C}}\), and especially the non-normal ones. They are classified into three cases: \((I)\quad cone\) over a singular plane quartic curve; \((II)\quad birational\) image of an elliptic ruled surface (which can be described more explicitly); \((III)\quad rational\) surface which is: \((IIIA)\quad a\) projection in \({\mathbb{P}}^ 3\) of \(Z^ 4\subset P^ 5\), \((IIIB)\quad a\) projection in \({\mathbb{P}}^ 3\) of a singular \(Y^ 4\subset {\mathbb{P}}^ 4\), or \((IIIC)\quad an\) imge of \({\mathbb{P}}^ 2\) by the linear system of the quartics with a prescribed double points and 8 other simple base points (note \(16-4-8=4\) and \(14-3-8=3\); its singular locus is a line possibly with finite points). Several old quartics are revisited during the course of classification.
