    The author proves the following two results. Theorem 1. Let g be the induced metric of a minimal hypersurface in a complete simply-connected space \(H^{n+1}\) with constant sectional curvature -1. Denote by R the scalar curvature of g. Then the scalar curvature \(\bar R\) of the conformal metric \(\bar g=\sigma g\) satisfies \(\bar R\geq 2n-3\), where \(\sigma =-R\) or \(\sigma =-R-2n(n-1)/3\). Theorem 2. Let M be a connected complete hypersurface in \(H^{n+1}\) (n\(\geq 3)\) with constant mean curvature k. If the scalar curvature R of M satisfies \(R\geq ((n-2)/(n- 1))n^ 2k^ 2-(n-2)(n+1),\) then M is totally umbilical. \{Reviewer's remark: If M is a compact submanifold of \(H^ m\), a more general result than Theorem 2 can be found on p. 144 of the reviewer's book [Geometry of submanifolds (1973; Zbl 0262.53036)].\}
