The author shows a formula for the two-variable polynomial \(P_ L(a,z)\) which states that for a link with n Seifert circles \(P_ L(a_ 0,z)\), \(P_ L(a_ 1,z)\),..., and \(P_ L(a_ n,z)\) are linearly dependent, where \(a_ 0\), \(a_ 1\),..., \(a_ n\) are mutually independent variables. As a corollary, he shows the relations between the two- variable polynomial \(P_ L(a,z)\) and the Jones polynomial or the Alexander polynomial. Moreover, he gives another proof of the theory due to \textit{H. R. Morton} [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 99, 107-109 (1986; Zbl 0588.57008)], \textit{J. Franks} and \textit{R. F. Williams} [``Braids and the Jones polynomials'', preprint].
