Let V be an even dimensional vector space V over an arbitrary field K equipped with a nondegenerate quadratic form Q of maximal index. Consider \((G^+,X_+)\), where \(G^+\) is the special orthogonal group of \((V,Q)\) acting on one of its two orbits \(X_+\) in the set of totally singular vector subspaces of V of maximal dimension. Let \(\tilde G^+\) be the special Clifford group of \((V,Q)\) acting on its orbit \(\tilde X_+\) in the set of pure spinors, which projects on \(X_+\). Making use of the terminology and the results of work reviewed above (Zbl 0634.55004), it is noted that \((\tilde G^+,\tilde X_+)\) can be regarded as a transformation space extension of \((G^+,X_+)\) by the group of units \(K_*\) of K. A cocycle of nonclassical type is then worked out which yields a complete cohomological description of \((\tilde G^+,\tilde X_+)\) and also of the reduced Clifford group \(\tilde G^+_{cr}\). When K is algebraically closed, the algebraic structure of \((\tilde G^+,\tilde X_+)\) and \(\tilde G^+_{cr}\) along with their rationality properties can also be taken into account in this description. Similar results are given when V is an \({\mathbb{R}}\)-vector space and Q is a nondegenerate quadratic form of signature \((2p,2q)\), so that an accurate cohomological description of the spin groups is obtained.
